(Or How I Learned What OAS Is)

I was 15 eating a fruit salad. The same one I had the day before. Then my throat started to get tight, my neck was itchy, and I got hives on my arms.

A few days later, it happened again, this time with raw carrots and raspberries.

What the hell was going on?!

After some testing, it was discovered that I have a cross reaction allergy with tree pollen and ragweed. I had to avoid raw fruits and vegetables because everything I tried eating was swelling my lip, giving me hives, tightening my throat, and it was terrifying. So I stopped eating any raw fruit and vegetables.

Then at 23, the same thing happened with nuts. Went back for allergy skin testing, and almonds puffed up and turned red more quickly than anything I saw in my skin testing before.

Long story, short: I'm allergic to a lot of food. Food that's nutritious and good for you. Food that's healthy. What I have is called Oral Allergy Syndrome. It's unfortunately becoming more common in the past bunch of years, and still a lot of people don't believe the allergy is real.

And so, after decades of not being able to really eat adventurously, almost dying of an anaphylactic reaction at a restaurant, and REALLY being tired of eating hot vegetables, I created this site. I want to spread awareness of OAS. I want to call out the brands that are champions in this allergy fight. I also want to call out brands that mislabel their food, which can literally lead to death. I want to share my OAS allergy safe dessert recipes because it's almost impossible to find a safe bakery, and I love dessert.
